Thank you for taking the time to consider our family. We hope we can show you who we are through these words and photos and can share our great joy in the prospect of becoming parents to your baby. We’d also like to get to know more about you and your special talents, skills, and interests so that we can look for these characteristics and nurture them in your child. We respect your strength and courage in this process.

Amy

Amy grew up in the Pacific Northwest, nestled between snow-capped mountains and the ocean. There she gained her love of gardening and spending time in the great outdoors.

Amy’s participation in Camp Fire girls gave her a moral compass and many beads. (Beads are earned by completing tasks, such as rolling up your sleeping bag.)

After college, Amy’s fearlessness with computers landed her a job as a programmer. Now she works at a university helping people become comfortable and productive using computers. Amy likes to create a warm and inviting home for gatherings of family and friends.

Amy is a compassionate, warm, caregiver. She’s a good listener and friends rely on her for advice and support. At church she is involved with providing religious education classes on subjects such as conflict resolution, and is active in the group that visits people who are ill, shut-in, or facing a crisis.

Amy loves to read. When she spends time with the children in her life Amy loves to tell stories, play let’s pretend, and sing.

Sharon

Sharon grew up in the mid-west. Like Amy, she discovered her interest in computers during college and has since become an I.T. manager at the local university. She is fascinated with technology and gadgets, and she enjoys building and upgrading our home computer network.

Although she loves helping people with computers, she still says her favorite job was being a camp counselor, surrounded by kids to entertain. Sharon also can be silly, making up funny voices for the dog and creating her own words for songs.

Sharon loves sports and has unlimited energy for tossing a ball, playing tennis, or shooting hoops. She looks forward to coaching more young ones on the joys of sports.

Sharon is adventurous and loves to try new things. She insists that every vacation destination include something new.

Us

We would like you to imagine, for a moment, the child you have brought into the world, being raised in our family.Picture moments of joy filled with music, camping, stories, sports, drum and dance, family, friends, dogs, singing, learning, laughing and lots of love.

The families we grew up in value open communication and caring. We believe these shared values create a supportive, secure environment in which a child can grow and thrive. We’re not perfect, and when we make mistakes, we see them as opportunities for growth and often turn them into funny family stories.

We have known each other for more than a decade and feel that our years together have built a solid foundation for a family with children.

Being surrounded by our nieces, nephews, and friends’ children has only reinforced our desire and commitment to expand our family.

Our Family & Friends

Our friends are our family, and our families are our friends. We feel very blessed to have a great group of wonderful, fun, interesting, supportive, and loving people in our lives. Many of our friends and family members have just started expanding their families, so we’ve been doing our fair share of babysitting. All the kids really enjoy our dog Toto, who is equally happy to just hang out or to run around.

In our extended families, a love of learning is common to all of us. We all are passionate about what we do in our lives. We have a newscaster, a chemist, ministers, college professors, economists, an opera singer, artists, athletes, writers, farmers, a solar engineer, a peace activist, and a soldier. There will be no lack of role models for being anything this child wants to be!

Sharon’s family reunion

Amy’s family looks forward to another child running with the yellow labs or making cities in the sand, watching grandpa Jerry make wooden bowls and furniture, or helping Grandma Anne knit or make beautiful beaded things, and maybe reading one of the children’s books Grandma Anne has written. Grandpa Fred and Grandma Consuelo look forward to introducing a child to a new country and international cultures. They frequently fly in from Chile to visit and their home is always open for visits to South America.

Home

Your baby would be loved by so many kinds of people.

Our home is a sweet Cape Cod in a quiet, friendly neighborhood. Neighbors help each other out: Shoveling snow, carpooling, and enjoying one another at potlucks and block parties. Our yard includes space for playing ball and for gardening. We grow some vegetables for the table and flowers for the house.

Sharon and her dad are currently renovating part of the basement into a family room to make a special space for toys, games, books, puzzles, and fun!

The toy chest at home has been filled for our young guests who have approved of all the toys so far. For rainy days, we have a basement dedicated to kid-friendly space! Within walking distance, there are three playgrounds and an elementary school, which is famous for welcoming and celebrating kids from many types of families and cultures.

Our friends at our wedding

Our town is small, culturally-diverse, and surrounded by natural beauty. There is plenty of art, theater, music, and much of it is offered specifically for kids. A large university and a private college attract students from around the world. Your baby would be loved by so many kinds of people: Gay, straight, old, young, and from many different cultural backgrounds. We really value differences in people because we know what it is like to feel different sometimes.

We have a choice of excellent daycare facilities located a very short distance from our home. Between the parental leave from the university, and options for flexible work hours, we plan for the child we parent to have quality time with us mixed with time in the company of other children at daycare and on play dates.

Activities

We are committed to living harmonious lifestyles that balance physical, emotional, and spiritual health. We are also committed to living lightly on the earth. We recycle, garden, buy local products and eat natural foods. We are active in our local Unitarian Universalist congregation and stay in close contact with friends and family.

We describe Unitarian Universalism as the church of the thinking mind, giving hands, and loving heart, where children are given the tools to explore the world of spirituality in respectful and loving ways and encouraged to discover what is true for them. The congregation is another welcoming place for all sorts of families, including lots of adoptive families.

Music is a part of almost everything we do. Our involvement in African and Latin drumming and dancing connects us to a wonderful community and nurtures our spirits. When gathered with family or friends we frequently sing together, usually with Sharon accompanying us on the guitar and Amy providing the forgotten lyrics to songs.

Your gift of a child to our family will always be honored.

We are excited about the possibility of an open adoption, whether that means an annual visit, exchanging cards and letters, or simply us providing you with photos and regular updates. Your role as birthmother will always be respected. Your child would always know of the strength and love that went into your decision and of our gratitude to you.

The most important thing to us is that you know in your heart that you are making the best choice you can, even if that choice does not include us. We wish you courage, strength, and love as you search for the right family for your baby.
