Thank you for taking a moment to find out who we are. We have the greatest respect for the care you are taking in figuring out what is best for your baby. We have so much love to share and are so excited about becoming parents. Our dream is to provide a safe, happy home for a child. We hope you will consider us as loving adoptive parents.

About Us

We have been married since 2001. We are both social people and we met playing volleyball. In fact, Laurie picked Rick for her team because she overheard him say that he just wanted to have fun. We like each other because we are both quite serious, but also can be playfully silly at times. We enjoy traveling throughout the world as well as exploring New York City where we live.

Our Home

Our home is in the heart of the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. Even though we live in a big city, the fruit seller on the corner says hello and the guy in the newsstand let’s us pay him the next day if we’ve run out of change.

Our building is unique because it has a beautiful interior garden. Everyone in our building is extremely friendly and there are several families with young children.

We took great care in renovating our apartment so that it feels like a true home.

We love to entertain. Our friends and their children look forward to our big New Year’s Day party and the various dinner parties that we host for family and friends.

Laurie - by Rick

Laurie has lived in New York her whole life. As a college student she decided she wanted to work with children. She has worked as a teacher, tutor, and now is a middle school curriculum developer. Laurie loves to read and go to the theater. She likes to travel so much that she often helps her friends plan their trips too.

I love Laurie for her deep and tremendous empathy. She makes new friends wherever she goes. Laurie is a warm, caring, loyal and generous person. She is very intelligent and very playful. She always makes time for people whether they are friends who need a warm shoulder to lean on or fifth grade students who need extra help in getting organized.

Laurie values our family and friends. She has been a good friend to me and I have been very lucky to have found her. Laurie is great with our friends’ young children and her students. She is absolutely brilliant at organizing, motivating, and getting children e xcited about learning and socializing.

I have no doubt in my mind that Laurie will make a wonderful mother .

Rick - by Laurie

Rick is the most warm and caring person I know. He is really fun to be with because he has so many fascinating interests and he is deeply curious about the world. Our friends all love the fact that Rick asks great questions and is always the one to get an interesting conversation going. His passion is playing music and he is involved with organizing folk music festivals, starting up a Cajun band as well as jamming with friends who play Eastern European music. Rick is really looking forward to teaching our child how to play music of all types.

I think one of the reasons Rick has so many interests is that he is tri-cultural. He was born in England and lived in Africa and Italy as a child. His British father and Italian mother moved to the US when he was 9 and he has lived here ever since. Rick trained as an engineer, but when he decided that it was his dream to live in New York City he switched directions to become an editor of books related to engineering

Our Family

Laurie’s dad and step-mom also live in New York City and we visit them often. They have a summer home in Connecticut one block from the beach where we plan to spend time with our child. Laurie’s cousin Lindsay lives in New York too.

Rick’s parents live in Pennsylvania as does his sister, brother-in-law and their two young children. We visit them regularly and enjoy spending time with our niece and nephew. Rick also has close family members who live in England and Italy. We try to see them once a year for family celebrations.

Our Friends

Laurie has lots of lifelong friends who live nearby and whom we see often. Since moving to New York, Rick has made many close friends and he enjoys meeting them in our neighborhood after work to jam. Our child will have many playmates to choose from among our friends’ children.

We are warm nurturing people with much love in our hearts to share with a child. Both of us have happy memories of our childhood spending time with our parents camping, doing art projects, and telling stories. These are the activities we dream of doing with our own child.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about us and to consider us as possible adoptive parents.
