Hello So
this is our life in a nutshell. We really hope that we can find the right voice
to give you an idea of who we are in these few pages and pictures – to be sincere
and decent in doing so. Because that’s what we are trying to do – to live a life
of sincerity and decency. The only thing we know about you is that you
must be trying to do the same thing, which makes our hearts go out to you. We
hope that through these pages we can show you something of our values, our life,
our family, our friends, and our desire to love, nurture and raise a child. |

 | Us When
the two of us met in 1997 it seemed like the pieces of a puzzle fitting together.
We talked for hours every day discovering all that we shared in common – a love
of new ideas, good books, foreign travel, the outdoor life, and time spent with
friends and family. Our life so far has been filled with all of these joys.
But above all it has been filled with laughter. Laughter has strengthened the
bond between us, making sure we find the sunny side of life, whatever it brings
our way. It is this joy for life, with all its challenges as well as its wonders,
that we so look forward to sharing with a child in our family, living everything
anew through his or her eyes. |
We
live in New York just by Central Park, where we enjoy walking, running and long
picnics in the summer. We look forward to making the most of the park’s many playgrounds
and summer activities with our children, as well as spending weekends at our cottage
in rural Connecticut where they can enjoy the lake, community events and summer
camps as they grow up. We have family spread across the US, UK and Germany
and we regularly meet up together at each others’ homes or at our chalet in the
Swiss mountains - a little slice of heaven on earth! Whether it’s skiing, hiking,
ice-skating, swimming or just sitting round the fire talking and reading, there
is always plenty to enjoy. | |

Parenting... We see the chance to be parents as a prospect both exciting
and humbling. The fact that we will not be biologically related to our children
is, for us, a reminder that the job of parents is to help their children explore
discover who they are and wish to be, and to offer them the love, security, opportunities,
ideas and life skills do so; to help them achieve success however they choose
to define it; and to support them in realising own dreams, not living out ours.
It is this chance – blessing and privilege – that we seek as parents. |

Arne - by Caroline One of the first things that strikes people about Arne
is his sheer enthusiasm for life. It was this, combined with his caring nature
and great sense of humour that first drew me to him. He has a deep personal integrity
and lives his life by values of honesty, tolerance and kindness to others; yet
he has a great sense of perspective about life and himself. Arne is very
smart, has had every success in his business career and loves his work. But it
is home, family and friends that are the centre of his life. He is never happier
than when engaged in deep conversation with friends, playing games with both grown-up
and little kids or hiking with family and friends in the mountains. |

I
know Arne will hugely enjoy exploring life with his son or daughter -- discovering
the world, following their imagination, finding out about new ideas-- every bit
as much as they will! Arne is an incredibly warm and generous human being.
He stands out in every crowd and draws people to him through his compelling personality.
He will be as wonderful, supportive and dedicated as a father as he has been as
my husband, best friend and the anchor in my life. |

On
Caroline - by Arne It’s actually quite hard to express what I feel about
Caroline as so many of my feelings for her are beyond words. She has a wonderful
sense of humor and does not take herself too seriously. Her mind is fascinating,
and there is nobody in the world that I have learned more from. There is not a
single thing that I cannot talk to her about. Caroline believes deeply
in family and has very warm, loving relationships in her life, including enduring
bonds with her friends. Our godchildren, nieces and nephews are an important part
of our lives and Caroline makes sure that we spend as much time as possible with
them. | |

Caroline
also has a very strong sense for community and public service and spends her energies
and work life trying to make a difference. Caroline is the love of my
life. I know we will grow old together and that every single day will be filled
with interesting discussions, lots of warm humor, doing sports and reading books
together and our hearts being drawn to each other. I can think of nothing
more wonderful than bringing up a child together with her. She is my true soulmate.
